Jacob and Esau are the Bible's first twins, but their outward resemblance only accentuates the profound differences between them. R. Yitzchak Hutner, one of the great modern interpreters of the Maharal, illuminates this paradox in a surprising parallel with the two goats of Yom Kippur. His reading invites us to consider the challenge of seeing past the surface of things to apprehend their inner reality.
